Wintop New Stick ONU Module
High-Performance Optical Access Solution
In the era of digitization and widespread broadband adoption, enterprises, campuses, schools, and operator networks often face challenges such as difficulty reusing legacy traditional switch architectures, high investment costs, and low efficiency of point-to-point cabling when upgrading broadband access. When upgrading traditional networks to PON architecture, original switches often cannot be used directly, putting users under dual pressure of equipment obsolescence and additional investment.
To address this pain point, Wintop has launched the new Stick ONU module (commonly known as “stick modem”), upgrading traditional switch + module to an optical access terminal, enabling a smooth network architecture transition. The Stick ONU module integrates the core functions of an optical modem into a size equivalent to a regular optical module, providing an efficient, low-cost, and reliable solution for project renovation.
The Stick ONU module uses SFP/SFP+ packaging and is essentially a “miniaturized optical modem” with core optical modem functions. With a size as small as a typical optical module, it can be directly inserted into the SFP interface of switches, routers, or network cards, enabling smooth transition from point-to-point networks to PON architecture. It fully leverages existing equipment to reduce renovation costs. The module integrates a main control chip, memory, flash, and an optical-electrical conversion module internally, supporting Internet and IPTV access to achieve a lightweight, high-performance optical access solution.
Low Power Consumption and High Stability: Max power consumption is only 2.3W, much lower than traditional optical modems, resulting in low heat generation and ensuring long-term stable operation.
High Bandwidth and Symmetric Rates: Supports symmetric 10Gbps upstream and downstream, unlocking the potential of XGSPON networks and meeting demands for high-definition video, multimedia, and high concurrency applications.
Compact Size with High Flexibility: Can be directly plugged into existing switches or soft routers, saving space and enabling easy installation.
Excellent Compatibility: With over 30 software iterations, it adapts to multi-brand OLT devices, ensuring smooth project deployments.
Leading Technology and Innovative Design
Long-Distance Transmission: The new Wintop Stick ONU module supports single-mode fiber transmission distances up to 20km, meeting remote access needs.
Flexible Interface Design: Supports hot-pluggable SFP+ packaging, with SC/APC and SC/UPC fiber interfaces for quick deployment and flexible replacement.
Intelligent Operation and Maintenance: Supports DDM digital diagnostics and unified management platform, reducing O&M costs and improving management efficiency.
Strong Standards Compatibility: Complies with ITU-T G.9807.1 (XGS-PON), ITU-T G.988, and SFP+ MSA standards, compatible with mainstream OLT devices.
Application Scenarios and Demand Potential
As digitization and widespread broadband adoption progress, traditional point-to-point access and switch architectures increasingly fail to meet the demands for high bandwidth, low cost, and easy deployment. Especially with the accelerated promotion of PON architecture, the need for “reuse, cost reduction, and rapid upgrade” in various network renovation projects becomes increasingly prominent. Wintop Stick ONU emerges as an efficient solution for the following typical scenarios.
Residential Community Broadband Renovation
Past point-to-point cabling bandwidth was limited. Property managers and operators hope to upgrade uniformly to PON architecture to save fiber resources and port costs. Stick ONU requires no additional external optical modem, supports plug-and-play, providing a more flexible choice for FTTH renovations.
Campus and Enterprise Network Renovation
Older campuses or office buildings initially used switches for access. As bandwidth demands grow, core switch port pressure rises sharply. Stick ONU allows existing switches to smoothly upgrade to PON access, avoiding large-scale equipment replacement and significantly reducing renovation and operation costs.
School/Hospital Network Upgrade
Upgrading LANs in teaching buildings, laboratories, or wards is often budget-constrained. Stick ONU leverages modularity, compact size, and low power consumption to enable old switches with optical modem functions, meeting multimedia teaching, high-bandwidth laboratory environments, and remote access needs.
Government/Operator Sites Upgrade
In standardized renovation of operator or government networks, Stick ONU is compatible with mainstream OLT equipment, enables fast deployment, supports large-scale user access, improves management efficiency, and reduces maintenance costs.
As the optimal solution for access networks, PON architecture offers incomparable advantages over Ethernet switches in campuses, schools, communities, and government broadband scenarios. For Ethernet project renovation, access switches need not be discarded; paired with Stick modules, they smoothly upgrade to PON architecture.
