By adopting advanced sensing, communication, and control technologies, faults are automatically detected, energy distribution optimized, and detailed data on the power grid status provided, achieving real-time monitoring and precise control of the grid. At present, intelligent substations have been widely applied worldwide.
In the future, intelligent substations will integrate advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data analysis, and the Internet of Things into the entire lifecycle of the intelligent substation to analyze and optimize grid operations, achieving deeper digital transformation. At the national macro level, strategic documents, policies, regulations, and technical standards will undoubtedly regard intelligent substations as important tools to achieve energy transition and sustainable development goals. Corresponding policies will also be formulated to promote the research and application of related technologies, advancing the construction and application of intelligent substations. In addition, the increasing amount of renewable energy will drive intelligent substations to better integrate and manage distributed energy resources. Project Introduction
The Yunnan 220kV Zhongzhai Substation Project is located in Luoping County, Qujing City, Yunnan Province, covering an area of 66.97 mu. It is invested and constructed by China Southern Power Grid Yunnan Power Grid Company, with a total investment of approximately 390 million yuan. Once operational, this project will become an important power hub for the Shizong and Luoping areas in Qujing City, Yunnan Province, further strengthening the local grid structure and supporting the high-quality economic and social development of the region.
The substation layout is divided into three columns of distribution device areas according to voltage levels, arranged from north to south as 110kV distribution device site, main transformer and 35kV distribution device site, and 220kV distribution device site. The main buildings inside the station include the main control communications building, 35kV distribution device room, alarm room, living fire pump house, deluge valve room, and a small firefighting room.
Project Challenges
The 220kV Zhongzhai Substation in Yunnan covers 66.97 mu, with approximately 127,000 cubic meters of earthwork removed. After clearing the surface humus, the foundation sites were all rock, requiring blasting excavation. The construction process faced complex challenges such as intricate grid structure construction, complicated geological conditions, and variable weather conditions. The 220kV Zhongzhai Substation project involves high-voltage systems with high technical requirements. Ensuring reliability, stability, and safety of the power system is also a challenge. Compliance with national and local laws, standards, and regulations is critical for the substation project. All equipment used must meet relevant safety and environmental requirements, conform to specific power industry standards and regulations, and pass testing and certification by designated national and industry authoritative bodies.
Project Requirements
In intelligent substations, the operational switch plays a key role, involving multiple aspects such as data communication and network management. Examples include real-time data transmission and communication, remote monitoring and control, local area network formation, network isolation and security, and optimized energy distribution.
With the advancement of intelligent substation construction, new application requirements have been proposed for intelligent substation network switches. The focus is on strengthening the standardization of intelligent substation network switches to improve substation operational safety, intelligence, ease of maintenance, and support for the control master station. This requires uniform appearance interfaces, information models, communication services, standardized parameter configuration, application functions, version management, and quality control, realizing the standardization of intelligent substation network switches to provide reliable technical support for the safe and stable operation of the power grid. Wintop Optoelectronics Solutions
Wintop industrial switches are responsible for 220kV/110kV-B network communications in the Yunnan 220kV Zhongzhai Substation Project. A total of 20 Wintop Optoelectronics “Four Unifications” switches were used on site, including 16 CM6020P2-N-F16G4 process layer switches and 4 CM6016P3-N-G16 central switches. Each 220kV/110kV-B1 network has 1 central switch and 4 process layer switches; each 220kV/110kV-B2 network has 1 central switch and 4 process layer switches. The process layer switches upload data to the central switches through cascading ports. Process layer switches connect to intelligent terminals, line protection, main transformer protection, measurement and control, intelligent line recording, and intelligent main transformer recording before uploading data to the central switches.
